Today, I am going to walk you through the process of streaming videos from Android to a TV using MX Player. The best thing about this is you can stream both online and offline content. Officially, Chromecast doesn’t support MX Player for screencasting. But you can stream MX Player videos via a third-party app. Follow the steps given below to stream videos from MX Player to your TV. Make sure you have Chromecast.

How to Stream Videos from Android to a TV using MX Player
- Step 1: Insert your Chromecast device into the HDMI port of your TV. (In case your TV lacks an HDMI port, you can’t stream videos). You should also plug in the power cable as well.
- Step 2: Install and open the Localcast app on your phone. The one I mention here is the free version. You can go for the premium variant if you want.
- Step 3: Once you open the app, you can see a yellow wifi-like button. Tapping on the same will reveal a small box that depicts the nearby Chromecast devices. Establish the connection to your TV by tapping on the appropriate one.
- Step 4: You are halfway to streaming videos. The next step is to open the video with MX Player. No matter what you play an online or offline video, you will get an option to open with MX Player. Just do it.
- Step 5: On the player interface, you will see a share button on the top-right corner.
- Step 6: On the set of different applications, you will see Localcast. Choose it and tap on the right one, into which you plugged the Chromecast.
Note, this applies to Step 4: If you Can’t see the option to open with the MX player option don’t worry! Tap on the three-dots button to get more options. Then, choose Tools. You will then get a Share option. Select the same. SEE ALSO: Open, Download and Adjust Movie on MX Player Subtitles (Guide).
Note: Now, you can watch the same video on your TV without any issue. The quality of the playback solely depends on the video you play. Ensure both your TV and Android gadget are connected to the same Wi-Fi via Localcast app. Or else, you can’t make this work. As long as Chromecast doesn’t support MX Player, you need to seek the help of a third-party app for the streaming purpose (here it’s Localcast).

It says “the video format is unsupported. Either the chromecast or local cast is not able to play this video file.”

VLC Player now supports Chromecast streaming directly. No third party apps needed. And given that MX Player is wanting new data share permissions now, they’re getting uninstalled. Been a nice several years, MX Player, but it’s time we parted ways now. Buh bye.
I use Solid Explorer File Manager link to Google Drive, and then play video through MX Player Pro which runs properly. Once I share it through localcast, it says not support on my TV. However, if I use localcast to play the same video from Google Drive directly, everything works.

Why does the mx player open at a smaller screen ratio?
When I choose the Localcast connected to my TV it just opens up the LC app but nothing more. I can play from the LC media player to my TV though. Prefer to use MX if possible.
No go here. There is never an option to share video via MX player. Video plays fine with subtitles in MX or VLC, but not in local cast, or any other casting program, no matter what I do.
I followed your method. But it does not play using MX Player, it is played using LocalCast native player I think. Because the videos shown are different. Also the subtitles disappear. You can do it straight away by just opening LocalCast
So it worked for videos on the internal storage or the SD card, even not using MX Player, Localcast player well. BUT, what I want is to stream videos on my USB external drive (connected to my Dex station for my S8+). MX Player does not list the USB drive, My Files does so I open my videos and play on MX from there, when sharing to Localcast it just doesn’t work.
Google Home will do the same and you can still access all the other features of MX Player. One downside of this is that you have to keep the screen on.
When will Chromecast support be implemented in MX player to cast directly instead of through Localcast?

all cast works much better, with localcast there are always issues with codec or transcoding
Evertything works, but when i share from mxplayer to localcast, the subtitles to movies stop working? And i cant find how to find them i localplayer

MX Player doesn’t transcode so you’re limited to what the Chromecast can play natively. 🙁
